Who employs international students?

- Anyone whom you can convince to employ you! …..BUT
- Make sure you are legally able to work in Australia
- check the conditions of your visa. Call Immigration on 13 18 81 if you are not sure.


Where can I find the jobs?

- Brisbane’s main newspaper
  > Courier Mail
  > on Saturday and Wednesday
- Job seek websites (eg. seek.com.au or careerone.com.au)
- Job agencies, especially for factory or labouring work
- look in the yellow pages under E for employment
- Local noticeboards
- In business windows
- Walk in with your resume
- Friends of friends
ask you teachers/homestay family/friends. Use your contacts in Brisbane

How do I apply?

- Step 1 : have a good resume
   > Maximum 2 pages
   > Check for spelling and grammar errors
   > Simple and relevant to the job you want
   > Clean
- Do what the advertisement says
  Telephone? Email? Post? Interview?
- Go to the places where you would like to work and give them your resume. Talk to the manager. Show them how keen you are to work. Dress well. Australians like people who show initiative.


Australian Culture

- Always be polite
- Do not be aggressive or forceful
- Smile and shake hands
- Show you are keen to work, but relax and be yourself
- Be well presented
  > take sunglasses off, neat and clean hair, ironed clothes
- Girls : neat top, trousers or knee-length skirt, nice shoes
- Boys : collared shirt, trousers
- Don’t go to the workplace at their busiest time
- Always thank the employer for their time
- Keep trying! Don’t be downhearted …it takes some time to find a job.
