Southbank

Our
free Friday afternoon activities program is very popular, and offers students
the opportunity to perhaps play a
game of soccer or volleyball
with their teachers,
learn Australian bush dances
or
taste Aussie food
on our special Oz Food days!
Coast, Country and Koalas
HHH Excursion Program
At HHH you receive the very
best English language training in Brisbane. As well, you can experience one-day
adventures to some of the most beautiful places in Queensland when you take part
in HHH’s exciting excursions program. Our destinations have been carefully
chosen to offer you the best chance to appreciate the natural beauty of this
country and its unique animals, while keeping costs and travel time to a
minimum.
We are now running our excursions
on Saturdays and the most recent outing on March 4 was to wonderful
Springbrook National Park in the southern highlands.
This year, we will also visit Kondililla Falls where we will hike through the
rainforests and wonder at the waterfalls and wildlife in this pristine
environment.
Stradbroke Island
is always a popular destination for our students with its perfect beaches and
the chance to see dolphins, whales and giant turtles! We will also take our
students to visit the Gold Coast, famous for its surfing beaches
and glamorous lifestyle as well as to the Sunshine Coast to experience
its glorious beaches and national parks.
Students always love to have their
photograph taken with that furry Australian icon, the koala, and Alma
Park Zoo in the Sunshine Coast hinterland is scheduled for visits in
2006. Here,
students can cuddle a koala, stroke a kangaroo and see a huge range of our very

Student News May 2006
Up Close with Koalas!
Over recent weeks, HHH Upper Intermediate students have been involved in
Internet research and oral presentations on Australian animals. With this in
mind, Teacher Ann and students Michael, Novia, Julia, Anne, Bill, Yan and Young
Ho headed off to see some of these amazing creatures face to face!
First stop was Walkabout Creek Animal Centre at Brisbane Forest Park
Headquarters. For the next hour and a half,
students were engrossed in closely observing a quoll, wallabies, tortoises,
snakes, frogs, a platypus, wombats and some rarely seen nocturnal animals.
By lunchtime our happy group was at Daisy Hill State Forest, gathering
kindling, and building a campfire. Wild wallabies,
magpies and noisy miner birds kept the students company as the sausages and
chicken sizzled on the hotplate. After lunch and with newfound energy, students
climbed the Ranger’s observation tower and then visited the Koala Centre where
they were introduced to Seeana, a two-year old and Olivia, a matriarch of 15
years.
It was a great outing, and the students not only learnt more about Australia’s
unique wildlife, but also were more appreciative of how important it is for
everyone to take responsibility for the welfare of our irreplaceable Australian
animals.
